MariaCONCETTA WITCOMBEMaria Concetta Witcombe, aged 76 of Accrington passed away peacefully on August 31 with her family at her side. The beloved wife of Ron, much loved mother of Daniel and Lucia, grandmother to Matthew, Samuel, Mia and Saul and great-grandmother to Emilia and Eva. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters Lina and Angela. Maria was born in Siracusa, Sicily and moved to England in the early 60s and met Ron soon after. Upon her arrival in England she studied at Blackburn College. Ron and Maria married in 1969 and lived in Blackburn initially, then moved to Church where their son Daniel was born followed by a move to Clayton where their daughter Lucia was born. The family then settled in Accrington. Many will remember Maria as a caring person who was always happy to help anyone in need. She was fun loving and loved a laugh and a joke. She also loved music, in particular she was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. Maria was very creative and could often be found painting at odd hours of the night when the inspiration took her. In the early 1980s Maria and Ron developed a keen interest in CB radio; Maria loved being able to speak to people not only locally but from all over the world. She particularly enjoyed connecting with Italians, a number of whom became personal friends. Maria had a great interest in all things celestial and spiritual and was able to share her gifts with many people throughout her life providing comfort, support and guidance whenever it was needed. The funeral service will be held at Accrington Cemetery, Burnley Road at 1pm on Tuesday, September 12 followed by burial at Dill Hall Cemetery. In-keeping with Maria’s wishes there will be no wake. Family flowers only please, donations can be made to NSPCC and a donation box will be available at Accrington Cemetery.
