I first met Alan some 50 years ago and there followed both a close professional association and a warm friendship. Alan had a quick and incisive mind and the ability to think strategically. The wider community had the benefit of Alan's talents. He was involved with the establishment of Derby University, as a Board Member of the DRI , was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant and became High Sheriff. I hope Sheila, Simon and Sally will continue to feel surrounded by his love. John Nickols

With my deepest condolences to Sheila and all of her close family. Alan was an amazing, much loved family man and a great contributor to many local organisations.
His rather sudden demise will leave a big space but filled with many happy memories. God bless.
