EdwinWOODof Accrington, passed away peacefully at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Monday, February 26, aged 88 years, surrounded by his loving family.
The devoted and much-loved husband of Jean, loving dad of Beverley and Kevin, dearly loved father-in-law of Ray and Assunta, cherished grandad of Christopher, Nicholas, Daniel, Maria and Michael and precious great grandad (Gramps) to Leila and Jacob.
Born on May 9 1935 to Susie and Ernie Wood. Edwin was the much loved and supportive elder brother of Ernest and Enid. He attended Stonefold Junior School and then Haslingden Secondary Modern School until the summer of 1950. He left school and commenced an apprenticeship with William Johnson, Joiners and Funeral Directors in Haslingden whilst also attending night school twice a week travelling to Waterfoot on his push bike. He completed his apprenticeship at the age of 21, was always keen to learn and produced workmanship of the highest standard whatever the job. He continued to work for William’s son, Brian, until 1988. When the business was sold Edwin decided to set up his own joinery business which he continued to run for many years finally retiring in March 2022.
Edwin’s funeral service will be held at St John the Evangelist Church, Accrington on Thursday, March 14 at 11am followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium at 12.20pm.
Family flowers only but donations in memory of Edwin are being gratefully received for North West Air Ambulance Charity.
