JacquelineWINTERIt is my sad duty to announce the death of my loved and admired wife, Jacqueline Winter.
In her teens she was employed by the Young Liberals during the era of their blocking South African cricket tours in the UK. Later she worked in the House of Commons as the political secretary to a Liberal MP and, amid an extensively reported public dispute, resigned over her defence of women's rights.
Subsequently we moved from London to Bath where she became the manager of the Bath And District Citizens' Advice Bureau. Jackie held that post for 15 uniquely formative and influential years during the 1980's and 90's. She wheedled its new facility from Bath City Council and re-designed the decrepit premises into functional administration offices and hospitable private interview chambers. She established and enforced its staff training procedures, guarded its independence from vested interests and hostile institutions, monitored the training and the work of its volunteer counsellors and protected them and it from the vagaries of domestic and national politics.
At the age of 74 Jackie died from kidney failure in Brighton at the Royal Sussex Hospital on July 7, 2025. In accordance with Jackie's wishes, there was no formal funeral service.
