Pamela IrisWILSON16/12/1928 to 08/11/2025 Pam Wilson died peacefully aged 96 in The Lodge Care Home, Exeter. Born in London daughter of Thomas J W & Hilda M (Beanie) Wilson, with a younger sister, now deceased: Christina (Wilson) Hartley.

Educated at Bromley High School & The Maynard School in Exeter, Pam went on to read Classics & Ancient History at St Hilda's College, Oxford & qualified as a teacher. She taught at Roedean School, Brighton and Haberdasher's Girls School in London. In 1960 Pam moved to Exeter and became Head of Classics at The Maynard School and Deputy Head from 1966 until retiring in 1990.

Pam was a devout Christian and was greatly involved with the St Leonard's Church family. She was also Chair of Governors at The Central Middle School and President of the 'Old Maynardians'.

Pam is survived by her Nieces Jane (Hartley/Hunter) Cumbers and Jo (Hartley) Wait, great Nephews Jack & George Wait, great Niece Rachel Hunter & Brother in Law Norman Hartley. She was a devoted Godmother to Lizzie, Sue and Richard. Although Pam never married or had her own children, we saw her as our 2nd 'mum' and the true matriarch of the family. She had such a positive influence on all of us, her friends, students and carers and will be greatly missed.

In Pam's words; "God has been faithful to me all my life and I have been wonderfully supported and amused by my beloved family and many loyal friends."

A celebration of Pam's life will be held at St Leonard's Church, Exeter on Monday 1st December at 2pm.

It was my privilege to know Pam as a church member and also vice chair of the PCC during my time as a curate at St Leonard's 1996-2001. She chaired the PCC and was a church rep during the vacancy between John Skinner and David Harris, and thus had a key role to play. She was firm, encouraging, a real listener, sensible, and always stood behind the gospel work. Thanks be to God!

Although I spoke with Pam alas only occasionally, she left an enduring impression on me.. a gracious, calm and godly lady.. I’m thankful to have known her… she reflected Jesus…
Many years ago she ‘tracked down’ the preparer of the Mothering Sunday poses… her thanks were ‘great reward’.
A gracious, warm and godly lady…
