My early memories of Caradog are at Pwllcymbyd, Rhydcymerau, tending to the bee hives, checking the rain gauge, riding pillion on the Burma road to Abergorlech looking for sheep that had escaped to the forest and cutting my finger whilst playing with his penknife.
At Glanrhydypysgod, Caradog was a frequent visitor calling in on his way home from work as a water bailiff on the beat or at the hatchery at Dolbantau. He gave me a pair of bantams for passing my 11 plus and later a corgi puppy was delivered on the motor bike.
Caradog was a very friendly and sociable person with an extensive knowledge of rivers, fish, birds, trees and wildlife in general that made him ideally suited to his job.
His many interests included fishing, shooting, farming, travelling in Europe, motorsport with trips to see the Scottish rally and the Isle of Man TT races. He enjoyed and would tell me of helicopter trips with Lyn.
Without fail, Caradog and Nel were always ready to help us at Glanrhydypysgod. Every job would be accompanied with jokes and stories and tales of night patrols at Cilgerran. He liked to tell me about his week at Aberafan beach training to handle the boats used on the Teifi estuary and the dog handling course for his patrol dog.
I was very honoured to be present for his British Empire Medal presentation at Llanelli.
A charming, well dressed, well liked person and a pleasure to know all my life, Caradog was my uncle and very good friend.
