I did a 6-week teacher training stint as part of my course at Bannockburn High in 1991. With zero experience, I struggled to deal with the classes to the point that I had decided teaching was not for me. Colin sat me down and gave me a talk that resonated and gave a glimmer of hope.
That talk popped into my head last night so I googled Colin out of curiosity. I am deeply saddened to have belatedly learned of his passing. Many students have thanked me for the positive influence I have had in their lives over the 32 years since Bannockburn High. I doubt this would ever have happened had Colin not convinced me that there was a future in teaching for me. My deepest condolences. I only knew Colin briefly but he had a major influence in my life that I will forever be grateful for. This is perhaps the epitome of teaching and I can think of no more suitable way to thank him and celebrate his life. I have to go now. I have class.
