Nicola was the kindest, sweetest and most gentle of souls who spread warmth and joy wherever she went. The years spent with her at Macmillan, gave me privilege to see the impact she had on the young people she worked with - all of the students wanted to leave my lessons and work with Miss Marshall given the chance. That wasn’t because she was too soft as she could tell them to behave when they were being tinkers, but it was because they all wanted to be part of her group because of her infectiously happy, warm and caring personality; she radiated genuine compassion. I vividly recall the kindness she showed to me when I was suffering with cardiomyopathy. After an emotional breakdown on retuning to work - she came in the next day with the biggest, most beautiful bunch of flowers from a florist that she had organised from a whip round from the English department. All to put a smile on my face. I’ve lost count of the our endless conversations at the end of the day, in the office, David’s room, my room - putting the world to rights and teaching. One thing I will remember is her smile - always smiling, laughing, and joking - rolling our eyes’ together at David’s jokes. Happy and special memories I’ll cherish forever. The smile she had would always spread when she talked about her family - and in some ways, I feel as if we have all watched Holly and Hannah grow through Nicola’s proud recollections and stories of her beautiful girls. First days at secondary, college, uni moving out etc. Nicola’s pride at their achievements was beautiful to behold. Heaven has truly gained an Angel - and I am sure her beautiful girls and Evie will continue to make her proud.
