The obituary notice of Phyllis THORNTON

Just learned of the passing of Miss Thornton, my music teacher at Belmont in the 1970s. Very sad news. What a woman! I remember her fondly, she seemed a tiny little twiglet, but boy! Could she get us monstrous lot to sing. Haha, a 4-part choir, 3-part choir, girls choir, she had no fear and made us sing properly, screeching "You might as well be singing the Telephone Directory!" What a Voice. I loved her, but as was the fashion then, I never told her. I remember many kindnesses and much encouragement. I asked a member of the congregation to tell her that my youngest had become a performing musician and was told that she had replied "I knew I was good!" Hilarious.
I am so sad to hear this news, and it so late. Please know that she has not been forgotten.

I have such very fond memories of Miss Thornton - the very best music teacher we could have had and she will be sadly missed

Phyllis was a wonderful friend, kind with a great sense of humour and so gifted musically. She cared for her family for many years and it is so sad that ill health didn't allow her to have more time to do more of the things she wanted. She was so well-liked by all who knew her. We were privileged to have her as our bridesmaid 48 years ago. Marjorie and Peter
