ElizabethTHOMPSONIt is with deep sadness to announce that on Monday, April 4, Elizabeth Rose Thompson, née Boydell, aged 82, sadly passed away peacefully at the Royal Blackburn Hospital with her family by her side. Elizabeth was born in Tottenham. She was the eldest daughter of the late Ellen and Alfred Boydell, and moved to Accrington in 1948. Elizabeth was a pupil at Accrington High School for Girls and worked at Barclays Bank in Blackburn, before leaving to start a family of her own with husband John. When the children had grown up, Elizabeth returned to work as Assistant Manager for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Accrington, and also did meals on wheels in the local area. Throughout her life Elizabeth was known for being very creative and had a real flair and talent for arts and crafts. She loved music, the theatre and singing and this was a big part of her life. She was a member of Accrington Amateurs and was a member of the Hyndburn Singers Choir for 40 years. Elizabeth was also on the Committee for Abbeyfield, Oakhill Mansion Residential Home. Elizabeth was very active right up until she became unwell in August last year. She loved walking and pottering in the garden. She spent many happy years at their caravan in Silverdale. Elizabeth also loved her holidays abroad in the sunshine. She was an active member of Accrington Inner Wheel Club and loved the social events and the trips away with friends. Elizabeth was a much loved and dear wife to John and dearly loved Mum to the late Paul, Peter and Helen, Granny to Cara and Georgia and mother-in-law to Deborah. A dear sister to the late Gordon, Roger and Dorothy, and sister-in-law to Margaret and Paul, Elizabeth also leaves behind nephews and nieces and so many good and lifelong friends. Elizabeth will be so sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all those who knew her. The service will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Tuesday, April 19 at 1.40pm, and will be led by Father Jordan McDermott. Family flowers only please, but donations would be gratefully received to the Encephalitis Society c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
