Mine
Mary was one of a kind – funny, loving, effortlessly elegant, and always a breath of fresh air. She had that wonderful ability to make people smile, and wherever she went she left things a little brighter. She was always beautifully turned out, perhaps never more so than when she and Eric were married at our house in Scotland.
Mary loved coming here. It became a place that held so many happy memories for her and Eric. When Eric passed away, she brought his ashes here, and she told us this was where she wanted to return when her own time came. Soon, her ashes will be placed beneath Eric’s tree, with a small portion scattered into the little stream beside it, which eventually finds its way to the North Sea. Just as we said when we said goodbye to Eric, she too can journey wherever the tides decide to take her.
I have so many wonderful memories of Mary. We were never short of an excuse to open a bottle of champagne—always the finest, naturally—to celebrate one thing or another. She adored my dogs as if they were her own, and goodness, we laughed. Those are the memories I’ll treasure: the laughter, the friendship, the love, and the joy she brought to all of us.
She will be missed beyond words, but remembered with smiles every time we raise a glass.
