Tim taught me music at All Saints High School back in the 80s. He was a true gentleman. I met him again recently when he was a supply teacher at the school where I now work. He was still a gentleman. Rest in peace Tim xxx

What an absolute gem of a teacher. He was the inspiration behind many school musical productions - The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado were two that I was lucky enough to be in. Like anyone who was lucky enough to be part of these shows, we all saw a very different side to Mr S than what was seen in the classroom - in his natural environment of leading others to enjoy music and performance. So many funny stories from our time in the school productions from laughing with him to annoying the living hell out of him. Regardless, he always took a joke well and could laugh at himself as much as others.

Meeting him a few times over the years since school, it was apparent just how good a guy he was and how much enjoyment he took from his work. Whenever I hear the music of G&S, I'll always tip my hat to him.

RIP Mr Slater

Tim was a kind and gentle soul with a fine sense of humour and almost endless patience. He had a passion for life and an infectious enthusiasm for music in all its forms. He was an incredibly talented violinist and pianist who wasn’t afraid of trying out new things such as accompanying school assemblies on a Roland synthesiser or encouraging a Catholic school to perform Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana (until someone actually read what the texts were about). He rarely lost his temper even when on one occasion he became so engrossed in writing on the board that he failed to notice that the entire class had climbed out of the back window as a prank.
He taught me music at school and encouraged me to join the Orchestra, the choir and to perform. I was very shy as a child and without me realising it he helped me build my confidence and music became a refuge for me. Tim was one of those great teachers who makes a lifelong impact on you, but you only realise it when its too late and you’ve already left the school.
Thank you. You will be much missed and remembered.

Tim was a kind and patient teacher who had time for young people. He helped form a lifelong love of music in many, including me.
