Dean DouglasRUDDLEDean passed away very suddenly at his family home on the 5th January 2024, which totally devastated his family and the wider community also.
He will be missed so very much, leaving the largest hole not only in his family's lives but also in so many other people's lives he touched over the years.
Dean was the youngest son to Douglas and Joan Ruddle, a brother to 2 siblings, an uncle to 5, a colleague and a true friend to everyone.
He was a doting husband and soul mate to Rachael for an incredible 42 years. He was a loving father to four amazing children, and an outstanding and proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren.
He was an incredibly proud, kind and generous man, his greatest achievement apart from his huge family was becoming a successful town, district and county councillor.
He has left a legacy behind and we are immensely proud to be a part of his family.
Dean's final journey .. 'Mr Somerton'
Dean will be taking one last drive through Somerton on Thursday 1st February 2024. He will leave his family home at Freshfields at 10.30am, travelling down Langport Road, along Behind Berry, proceeding to the Town Square where he will pause briefly outside the Market Square (Buttercross). We hope that you will join him in his final journey, a town he has poured his heart into for so many years. There will be a private family service held after this. The family offer an 'open invitation' for everyone that would like to help celebrate Dean at Edgar Hall from 2.00pm onwards, Thursday 1st February 2024. This will begin with a memorial service where we will share stories and memories of Dean.
The memorial service will be live streamed on Teams for those that are unable to attend. This can be found on the Somerton Town Council website.
We will be sharing memories, stories and photos of Dean, throughout his life whilst raising a glass of his favourite beverage; lemonade and blackcurrant, hot beverages and not to mention homemade cake.
Please dress bright and colourful to reflect Dean's outstanding personality.
There are two books of condolence located at Edgar Hall, Somerton & St Michaels All Angels Church, Somerton. These will be moved to the memorial service at Edgar Hall on or just before 1st February.
The family would love to hear your stories and memories of Dean. At the memorial service his family will be asking for cards of memory to be written and added to Dean's memory box. The family hope to share these stories and memories with Dean's children and 13 living children.
