BarryROBERTSSome of you may know our brilliant, witty, rebel dad as the man who sometimes spoke publicly in Canterbury town centre, mainly about theology, politics and spirituality. We didn't get to see him speak there, but did see him speak many times to large crowds at Speakers' Corner, Hyde Park, London. He was one of the most popular and respected speakers there and debated life's big issues with thousands of people from all over the world from the late 70s until he moved to Margate in 2001. Barry was born in 1943 in SW London and grew up in Worcester Park, Surrey. He was a successful business-owner hairdresser. Our memories of him include telling us bedtime stories, weekend drives and cream teas, reading us Keats, Wordsworth and Shakespeare - importantly, asking 'what do you think that means?', teaching us cricket, chess and how to drive. He also taught us to think, challenge and stand up for equality and people's rights. He was a devout socialist and we became active in our local Labour Parties from 2015. At his funeral on 29th August, we sang The Internationale, in keeping with his wishes. We are so proud of him and miss him terribly. "Tomorrow is ours, comrade" x
