PatriciaRILEYMrs Margaret Patricia Riley, known as Patricia, passed away peacefully at Highfield Hall Nursing Home, Haslingden on Friday, September 17, aged 94. Born in Blackpool, Patricia moved to Scoutbottom at the age of four, then at the age of 15 she moved to Rawtenstall where she lived for the rest of her life. She attended St Anne’s Primary and Lea Bank Central Selective School. In her early working life, Patricia was employed as Wages Clerk at John Mills Ltd, Waterfoot then, following the birth of her first child, she became a housewife. After her children grew up, she worked as a Wedding Registrar, based at Haslingden, for 13 years. She was a valued member of Sion Baptist Church, Higher Cloughfold and volunteered with the local branch of Save the Children Fund for over 50 years, where she held a number of different offices. In her earlier life she was involved with the Townswomen’s Guild and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. A keen and talented sewer and knitter, Patricia enjoyed embroidery and until a few weeks before her death, she was knitting children’s scarves to be sent overseas. Patricia was married to Gordon for 67 years before his death six years ago, and she leaves her daughter Christine, son Peter, daughter-in-law Annette, sister Betty, six grandchildren: Amanda, Andrew, Charlotte, Libby, Simon and Matthew, and great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life is to be led by Revd Rod Bevan at St Anne’s Church Edgeside, on Tuesday, October 5 at 1.30pm, followed by a service of committal at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only; donations for Save the Children (Rossendale Branch). Donations can be made online at www.fredhamer. co.uk (tributes and donations).
