SilveenPRITCHARDWith sadness we announce the death of our beloved mother Silveen Bakos Pritchard who died suddenly on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Mum's lineage was Semitic and Germanic, born into the Iraqi Catholic house "Bete Bakose" known for its strong religious ties. She lived out her spiritual life as a woman of prayer and worship. Mum's global family spans Iraq, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, United States and New Zealand.
Widowed at age 40 with her immediate next of kin abroad, Mum's courage was testimony to a life of devotion to her faith and family. Through the fruits of her spiritual life, a strong independent spirit and self-sacrifice, she provided well for her daughter Zinia and her son Mazin (Maz). We will be forever grateful for our mother's enduring love and for the life she made possible for us.
Mum had a strong business acumen and was a successful entrepreneur. She began her career in banking, inclusive of cashiering, accounting and copy typing. Her happiest years were in UBAF Bank in the bi-lingual secretarial role to the General Manager. In her retirement, Mum contributed her skills as a volunteer with the British Red Cross, recalling her many years of service with fondness.
Mum enjoyed travelling and visited many European countries, the U.S. and Canada. In the past 10 years, failing health led to her becoming homebound. Maz's unfailing devotion as her primary carer enabled Mum to remain in her own home with quality of life and dignity until the very end.
