To My Loving Father On This Day July 21,
In My Heart, The Garden Grows. The afternoon sun warms the air,
I close my eyes and see you there.
Though forty-five long years have passed,
The sanctuary you built will last.
No parting words were ever spoken,
The sudden silence left me broken.
I never got to say goodbye,
Before you found a brighter sky.
I cannot walk that rented land, Or touch the soil made by your hand.
I do not seek a stone or grave,
To keep the endless love you gave,
Instead, I hold your garden close,
The summer days you loved the most.
Within my heart, the green still grows,
The quiet peace a father knows.
I take the lessons that you grew,
And build a life that honors you.
I live my days to make you proud,
Beyond the shadow and the cloud.
The hurt of losing you remains,
Like winter frost or sudden rains.
But looking at the blooming trees, I find a sudden hopeful peace.
