John was known to the athletic community in Gloucestershire and world wide. His sense of humour and ‘nothing being too much trouble’ was always a delight. He was a great friend of my fathers (Geoff Parry, long passed) both with starting pistols at athletic tracks. He then reappeared several decades later at my sons primary school teaching maths, with a reputation, for all the children looking forward to when Mr. Pickles arrived. I can thank John for giving my son the passion to have a career in maths, my athletic days joyful and personally meeting a great gentleman. Jacqueline McQuillan (nee Parry).

John was a good man.
I remember John as a swimming teacher at Gloucester leisure centre he was very popular and well liked by the many adults and children he taught to swim.
I also remember John as the starter for the Uk Special Olympic Games in Cardiff his sense of humour and patience with the athletes was wonderful.
He will be missed and may I offer my condolences to all his family and friends in the sporting world.
