NoelPHILLIPSIt is with the deepest sadness that we announce that Noel passed away peacefully,
with his family by his side, on the morning of Sunday 24th May 2026, aged 87 years.

A loving and devoted father to Sharon, Sarah, Emma and Gareth; a cherished grandad to Arron, Freya, Paris, Lydia, Arianna, Cameron, Frankie, Harper and Ruby; beloved husband of the late Patricia; brother-in-law to Christine and Geoff; and special friend to Kerri.

Noel was devoted to his career as a teacher and, over the years, was a fantastic friend and mentor to many of his
ex pupils. He touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Noel's life will take place
on Tuesday 16th June 2026 at 12:40pm at Woodlands Crematorium.

Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, may be made in Noel's memory
to the Alzheimer's Society, local Macmillan services, and the District Nurses.

All enquiries to Wilson & Cooper Funeral Directors,

Mr Phillips — or Nobby, as so many knew him — was a strong, supportive, and quietly determined teacher. Alongside James Copson, Brian Johnson, Alan Major and myself, I was part of the small group he pushed hard in cross‑country and athletics. With his encouragement we travelled the length of the country, from Carlisle to Brighton, competing at weekend events we would never have reached without his backing.

His support extended far beyond running. Wherever a student showed talent — swimming, soccer, or anything else — he was there, steady and committed.

He was a great teacher. I live now in Sydney, Australia, and yet two people have contacted me personally to tell me of his passing. That says everything about the impact he had.

Rest in peace, Nobby.

Nobby recognised my potential as an athlete at Scunthorpe Grammar and High Ridge school and coached me to county champion at cross country and middle distance track racing.
RIP, Sir. James Copson
