MayPARKINGTONMargaret May Parkington, formerly of Lister Street, Accrington, peacefully passed away at Vine House Care Home, Oswaldtwistle on Friday, May 31, aged 95. May was the beloved wife of the late Hubert Parkington, much-loved mother of Marilyn, Andrew and Colin, mother-in-law to Ian, Christine and Hilary. May was a precious grandma to Sarah, Andrew, Catherine, Matthew and Simon, also great grandma to Max, Oliver, Louie and Wilf, also a much loved aunt and dear friend to many. May was raised in Great Harwood with her parents and brother Jack, before moving to Accrington in 1939. May had worked various jobs throughout her life, retiring in 1994 from Accrington and Rossendale College where she was a cleaner for 20 years. With her late husband and family members, May enjoyed many holidays throughout the British Isles, and also enjoyed lovely holidays with her dear cousin Joyce and her husband Brian, at their home in Sidmouth, Devon. Before suffering a stroke in 2008, May enjoyed many pastimes. Her passion was singing, especially with family members on holidays and nights out and she also enjoyed being a member of both The Hyndburn Singers and The Red Rose Singers for many years. May also loved flower arranging, which she took up in her forties, achieving City and Guilds in floristry and was a member of Accrington Flower Club, arranging many floral displays in local shows and festivals. May was also a dedicated parishioner at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Accrington, until her stroke, but was very grateful for Fr. Stamp’s visits to her at home. May’s speech was unfortunately affected after her stroke, so life became very different for her, but she still managed to keep her sense of humour and live independently with the help of her family and dear friend and good neighbour Anne, until last year. She became a member of the Stroke 4 Fun Group and Stroke Choir and loved all her friends she met there, enjoying being out and about with them on various activities. May’s family would like to especially thank Julie, Michelle and the team and also other residents at Vine House Care Home for their love and care of May, also for their kind support of her family. Special thanks to Dr. A. Bhat, the district nurses, the breast care nursing service and Fr. O’Brien for his visits to May whilst she was at Vine House. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, June 25 at 3pm at Accrington Crematorium, officiated by Fr. S. Stamp. Family flowers only please, donations in memory of May are to the Stroke Association. C/o, Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. BB5 6DR. Tel. 01254 233133
