Pat (Martha Evelyn)NICHOLAS1943 - 2023 Pat, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on 31st January 2023 after a long illness. Pat was known to many in the Caernarfon area through her work with the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and as a chiropodist. Born and raised in Treffgarne, Pembrokeshire, Pat moved to Flintshire in the early 70s, and then to Y Groeslon in 1974, where she settled to raise her family and was part of the village community for many years. Pat was educated at Taskers School for Girls in Haverfordwest, and later read Music at Aberystwyth University but decided against pursuing her studies and became a legal secretary before marriage. In mid-life, she volunteered for many years with the CAB, and in later life with the WRVS primarily at Ysbyty Gwynedd, where she would later be treated. Pat believed in caring for others, helping those in need and in a fair society for all. Socially, she enjoyed belonging to the NHR in the 1970s and 80s, played bridge most weeks with a regular gang of friends, and in retirement learned Spanish at Coleg Menai and danced with old and new friends as a member of CAIN, performing at Sadler's Wells at one point. While Pat was strongly pro-social in her views, she was also the ultimate pragmatist and hated fuss of any sort. It was her wish not to have a funeral service or gathering, mostly as that would require 'fuss' but Covid-19 also cemented her wishes in that regard. As a family, we understand that her friends and acquaintances would wish to remember Pat and celebrate her life. We would suggest wearing bright colours or, for those who can, consider a donation to Plas Pengwaith or Cerrig Yr Afon nursing homes, who cared so well for Pat in her last year, or alternatively to the Arfon Foodbank in Caernarfon in her remembrance. Nos Da Nain, Mam xxx
