Kathleen RitaMILLSPassed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Henley House in Accrington on Thursday, June 12, aged 92. Beloved wife of the late George, cherished mum to Adrian and Nadine, and much-loved grandma to Jessica, Claire, Cheryll, and Ciona, Kathleen will also be deeply missed by her great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. One of nine siblings – and in her own words, “the best of the bunch” Kathleen – lived a life full of warmth, humour, and resilience. She began her working life as a bus conductor, a job that would change her life in more ways than one. It was on those very buses that she met George, a young RAF serviceman who eagerly looked forward to every ride that brought him closer to the woman who would become his wife. Their love story was marked by devotion and determination –George would cycle over 150 miles round-trip every weekend just to see Kathleen. They married in early 1954, and she moved to Lancashire, settling in Church. Later that year, they welcomed Nadine, and six years later, Adrian completed their loving family. Kathleen had a heart of gold and a wonderfully honest spirit. She wasn’t shy about sharing her opinions – those who knew her always knew exactly where they stood. Her quick wit and straight-talking nature were trademarks that endeared her to many. A talented home cook, Kathleen was especially known for her legendary Yorkshire puddings, lovingly made for her grandchildren. She also had a lifelong passion for knitting, often gifting soft toys and clothing items – whether you wanted them or not – always accompanied by a cheeky smile. She and George enjoyed scenic drives through the Ribble Valley and frequent visits back to her beloved Yorkshire. These simple pleasures brought her great joy. Kathleen’s warmth, humour and no-nonsense charm left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Family flowers only please, donations are being gratefully received in her memory on behalf of The British Heart Foundation, a donation box will also be provided at the funeral. Kathleen’s funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington BB5 6HA on Friday, July 4 at 3pm.
