NannieMELLINGNan Melling (née Sutton) passed away peacefully at her home of 58 years on 20 September 2025 surrounded by her three children.
Born in Banks in 1925, she later moved to Southport, then Scarborough where she trained as a teacher, followed by London where she started her family before finally settling in Gosforth. Nan originally met her husband John in her hometown of Banks where they both had family. The two kept in contact by writing letters to each other during the war years when John was stationed with the RAF in the far east. They married in 1947 after John returned.
Nan was a lover of art, nature and sport. Her many talents and hobbies included watercolour painting, calligraphy, ikebana and keeping up with the tennis or cricket. Nan and John also enjoyed travelling together, especially to visit various family in the USA and Canada. In 2025, Nan reached the amazing milestone of her 100th birthday and celebrated with a party for family and friends. She is survived by her sons Peter and Anthony, daughter Amanda, and grandchildren Georgina, Katarina and Jamie. She is now peacefully reunited with her beloved husband of over 60 years, John.
