MargaretMCINTYREof Helmshore, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, aged 88.
Devoted wife of the late Stephen McIntyre, dearly loved mother of Ann, Rosemary, Celia, Claire, Helen, Fiona, Damian, Carmel and Ewan and the late John. Much loved mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to the late Mary and Mabel.
Margaret started her career in the Library Service, returning to the job she loved after her children were grown up and finally retiring from Haslingden Library in 1997. She had a keen interest in local history and worked as a guide for Helmshore Textile Museum when it first opened. Margaret was a talented singer who successfully competed in many music festivals in her youth. Throughout her life she continued to pursue her love of singing by performing in local concerts. She was a member of Haslingden Choir and St Mary's Church Choir, and, together with her husband, sung at many local weddings.
Margaret was creative and found great pleasure in gardening, cooking and reading. As a gifted dressmaker and knitter, she not only made beautiful clothing for her own children but also many of her grandchildren. Born and raised in Blackburn, she made Rossendale her home after her marriage in 1959. After her retirement she could often be seen walking round Helmshore with her husband.
Margaret's funeral will be held at St Mary's Church, Haslingden at 10.15am on Friday, February 6.
Family flowers only. Donations in Margaret's memory are welcomed for Rossendale Hospice who provided excellent care in her final weeks.
Enquiries to Georgina or Paul at Johnson Durning Woods Funeral Service 01706 214498.
