Michelle HannahMATTHEWSof Accrington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, at home with her beloved family. Michelle had worked at The Hollins Secondary School since 1997 in a number of roles but ended her career as a caring and supportive Teaching Assistant. She will always be remembered fondly by her colleagues and the many people she has supported over the years. Michelle enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends. Michelle was born in the sixties in Accrington, then in the seventies, was into Northern Soul music and regularly went dancing in Preston. She later in life went down to live in the ‘big smoke’ in London, to be a nanny. She then returned to Accrington and did her degree in Sociology, Psychology and Criminology; she then found her passion in teaching. Michelle spent the rest of her life teaching at different levels, including Child Care. To quote classical author Thucydides: “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” Rest In Peace, Michelle Matthews-Powers 1960-2023. Michelle was a devoted mother to three children, Jake, Otis and Jaemila, a special sister to Lee, a darling daughter to Kathleen and the late Roy Matthews, and an auntie to Finley and Denver. She was also the loving cousin to Nicolette and many. The funeral will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, February 22, at Accrington Crematorium, followed by the wake at Whitakers Arms at 4pm. Family flowers only, donations welcome to Cancer Research Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queen’s Road, Accrington. Tel: 01254 233133.
