Mary Sarah (Mavis) LORDMary Sarah LORD Mavis It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mavis on Tuesday, November 5, aged 92 years. Daughter of John Reeves and Eva Reeves of Londonderry, mother to Dr. Catherine Mary Lord, wife of the late Michael Cunliffe Lord, aunt to Dory Reeves, great friend to Eileen and Bob McFarlane of Clayton-le- Moors, and a great friend to many, Mavis will be sorely missed. She trained as a nurse in Blackburn in the 1950s, where she met her husband, Michael Lord. She qualified as a Senior Registered Nurse. Dedicated to the NHS for forty years, Mavis was prolific in her professional range, running a variety of clinics at Canon Street in Accrington, as well as being a school nurse, often working with her friend of fifty years, Eileen McFarlane. Mavis loved detective novels and crossword puzzles. She was a talented conversationalist, was blessed with a refined sense of humour, was a brilliant story-teller and, above all, had a quiet charisma. The funeral service will take place on Monday, December 9 at Accrington Crematorium at 1pm. The Chapel of Remembrance at the Funeral Director’s - Wolstenholme-Dignity on Willow’s Lane in Accrington – will be open from 9am.
