Sorry to just hear this now..Well I used to play cricket with Nigel at Frickley Colliery in the early 2000s for about five seasons. He was always an interesting fellow to have a conversation with, and he was very difficult for opposing bowlers to get out. He travelled a lot of miles from Hull area to our home matches, sometimes with his friends Andy Stanton and Martin Hulland. In one game at Featherstone around 2002 we both got dropped down the batting order for a younger lad because we were too slow apparently and not scoring enough. The young lad failed. In fact most of the team failed and we were banished to 7 and 8 in the line up. At 102 for 6 with 10 overs left we were in big trouble. Lingy came in and I could see he had the bit between his teeth and was like me, ' determined to show em'. We put on an unbeaten 74 in 10 overs, mainly by running well with the odd boundary. After the game, which we won narrowly, he just grinned at me knowingly. Thanks for the memories Nigel. John Pinder.
