MaryLAWRENCEMary Monica Lawrence, known to all as Monica, passed away peacefully on 17 December 2025 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Claude, Monica was a devoted mother to Marcus, Duncan and Sean and a cherished grandmother whose warmth and wisdom touched every life she encountered.
Monica's professional life was rich and varied. She worked in newspapers and book publishing before helping support her late husband Claude in running their successful printing business. Her intellectual curiosity and commitment to public service were evident throughout her life. A passionate advocate for education and faith, Monica served as a local councilor for North West Leicestershire, where she championed the continued teaching of religion in schools-a cause close to her heart.
In addition to her political work, Monica was a forward-thinking writer and thinker. During the 1960s and 1970s, she published influential papers critiquing globalization, demonstrating her deep concern for social and economic justice long before these issues became mainstream.
Monica will be remembered for her unwavering principles, her love for family, and her dedication to community and faith. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the causes she championed.
