EdwardKITCHENTed died peacefully at his home on May 29.
Ted, aged 93 years, of Huncoat, was the devoted husband of the late Audrey, loved dad of Bridie and Liam, cherished grandad of Rachel and her husband Ian, Sam, Lucas and Ruby-Mae, loving great-grandad of Ethan, Merica, Skye, Niall, Jude and Ava, dear brother of Eileen, and also a respected relative and good friend to many.
Ted spent his working life in service, firstly completing his National Service in the Army, which took him to Egypt and Germany. He later joined the police before moving to the fire service, working in Ramsbottom and Accrington. Ted was passionate about his work and made many good lifelong friends.
Although he knew a lot of people, Ted was happy in his own company and content with his lot in life. He enjoyed the odd pint at the Railway pub and, being a true gentleman, people were naturally drawn to him to share conversation.
He was a doting family man and was proud of all his family's achievements in life. He treasured time spent with them, especially enjoying meals at his favourite cafes.
In his younger years, Ted loved to get stuck into his latest DIY project. He was hands-on and could turn his hand to any task. At home, he loved to settle in his favourite chair and watch television.
In his later years, Ted was lovingly cared for by his family, especially Ian, who devoted himself to becoming his carer, allowing Ted to maintain his independence and stay at home, the place he loved to be.
Ted was loved and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be greatly missed but remembered with a warm smile.
Ted's funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Accrington Crematorium Chapel followed by Interment at Accrington Cemetery.
Family flowers only please; donations are being received in Ted's memory on behalf of The Fire Fighters Charity.
