It was a great sadness to hear of Meurig's death. He devoted years of service to the History Forum for Wales, as a wise and principled Chairman, and his love for the history and heritage of the Welsh nation was fervent. The formation of the Forum in 1999 was an inspired idea to link up the many historical societies and strengthen the voice and influence of the voluntary heritage sector. The Forum's themed conferences, its presence at venues such as the National Eisteddfod and the Sain Ffagan festivals served to promote the message and display the variety and richness of our national story, as well as to voice our concerns over issues such as the future of Welsh History in our schools. For several years, the effective team of Meurig as Chair and Pat as Secretary provided a secure base for the Forum, and our debt to both of them is profound. We shall all remember Meurig warmly, and his passionate mission for the history of our country.

Trist iawn fu clywed am farwolaeth Meurig. Fe roes flynyddoedd o wasanaeth i Fforwm Hanes Cymru ac roedd ei gariad at hanes a threftadaeth Cymru yn danbaid. Syniad ysbrydoledig fu sefydlu'r Fforwm yn 1999, yn gyfrwng i gysylltu'r gwahanol gymdeithasau hanes a'i gilydd a chryfhau llais a dylanwad y sector treftadaeth wirfoddol. Bu cynhadleddau thematig y Fforwm, ei phresenoldeb mewn mannau fel yr Eisteddfod Genedlaetholn a gwyliau Sain Ffagan yn gyfrwng i ledaenu'r neges am amrywiaeth a chyfoeth ein stori genedlaethol, ac i leisio consyrn dros faterion fel lle Hanes Cymru yn ein hysgolion. Am flynyddoedd bu'r tim effeithiol o Meurig yn Gadeirydd a Pat yn Ysgrifennydd yn angor cryf i'r Fforwm, ac mae'n diolch ni i'r ddau yn ddwys a chynnes. Fe gofiwn i gyd yn annwyl am Meurig a'i genhadaeth ddiflino dros hanes ein gwlad. Bob Morris
