John GlynJONESOn 27th July 2018 died, aged 74, after a long illness at his home in Turkey. John was the elder son of the late John and Peggy Jones of 1, Cross Thomas Street, Merthyr Tydfil. Educated at Twyn yr Odyn Infant and Junior Schools and Quakers Yard Grammar School between 1955 and 1962. A keen sportsman, he was schools' Borough Champion in the triple jump and an ever present member of Quakers Yard's first 15. He was in the first group of pupils in the Borough to gain the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award, receiving it at Buckingham Palace. He was a Baptised member of High Street Chapel. He went on to Keele University to study Geography and Politics and also Captained the University's First 15. Whilst at Keele he married his first wife, Penny, Nee Blackmore. After a Career in teaching, Town Planning and Local Government, he settled in Turkey with his second wife, Yuksel Attamar. There were no children of either marriage. John will be greatly missed by Yuksel and his first wife Penny, also by his younger brother, Huw, and his brother-in-law, Tim. He was a kind and caring uncle to his nephews Rhodri and Rhidian and his nieces Haf and Hannah. He will be sadly missed by his many cousins and his friends.
