Six years Jim and I’ve exhausted all the photos, in my possession, that give a glimpse of our teenage years. However, earlier this year I came across a photograph, dated 1963, of the very pub where we started our pre 18 drinking and a few years after. So it must have looked like this when we frequently graced its doorway. It is, of course, the well known, blue star badged ‘Globe Inn’ on Clayton St, Newcastle where we spent many a happy hour and quite a few
10/- notes!
You’re still well remembered Jim.

Five years since you left us Jim and I think this may be the last photo I have with you on it.
This one was taken in 1963 at Sandy Bay Caravan Park, Newbiggin. We were both helping to bail out Jim Emmerton after some torrential rain had flooded his caravan pitch.
Jim Emmerton eventually became my father in law.

I well remember the midnight cliff top fishing, the air rifle practice and the juke box where we worked out how to get three record plays for sixpence rather than pay a shilling!
I remember us playing on the pinball machine, listening to music from John Leyton, Sandy Nelson, Helen Shapiro, The Animals and many others. And swimming in the club house pool. Also Bertorelli’s milk shakes at the club house at Sandy Bay and Coxon’s of Seahouses the previous two summers.

However it wasn’t very long before it was pints of Newcastle Exhibition we were drinking in some of the pubs of Newcastle.
We had some great adventures in the late 50s and into the 60s.
Rest well Jim.

Jim’s mother is the lady in the centre of this trio. I knew her as my auntie Jinny (not a blood relative). The lady to the right in the picture is my (actual) auntie Florrie. I don’t know the lady on the left. Florrie and Jinny lived next to each other on Ennerdale Rd in Walker and were very close friends. I was a frequent visitor to my auntie Florrie’s which is how Jim and I became such firm friends. A friendship which took us through our childhoods, into our teens and adulthood. It’s amazing how Jim so resembled his mother!
It may be four years since your passing Jim but you are still, and always will be, well remembered,
