Hugh passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday 22nd October 2025.

A beloved husband to Jeanne, dear father to Katie, Andrew, Marianne, Helen, Christina and Anna, and loving grandfather to David, David, Amy, Harry, Ellie, Louie, Calla, Rowan and Etta.

He will be sorely missed, and his incredible capacity and enthusiasm for a life well lived will be long remembered and treasured by his family and friends.

Hugh's funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday 13 November at St Edward's Church, Whitley Bay, where all are welcome to attend.

Family flowers only please, or on request. Donations in lieu (if desired) can be made to a number of charities that Hugh supported, for which a donation box will be available at the service.

We will proceed to Whitley Bay Crematorium for a private committal following the church service.

Well-wishers are invited to raise a glass or three to Hugh afterwards at the Kittiwake pub, Whitley Lodge. All are welcome from 12 noon onwards and a buffet will be provided.

Dad was a man of spirit, strength, and stories - whose presence filled a room, and whose laughter lingered long after he’d gone.

He lived life with passion and purpose. Whether he was out on the water with the wind in his sails, walking among the trees, or wrestling in a rugby match, Dad found joy in the world around him and shared it freely with others.

He served his country with pride, carrying the discipline and camaraderie of the army into everything he did. But beyond duty and achievement, he was guided by heart - a deep sense of community, loyalty, and care for those he loved.

Dad was a storyteller at heart. He could turn the simplest moment into an adventure, a quiet evening into a chorus of laughter. Through his stories, he taught us about courage, kindness, and the importance of living fully.

He will always be our compass - steady, true, and guiding us toward what matters most. Though he may have sailed beyond the horizon, his spirit remains with us in every wave, every breeze, and every story we tell.

We love you, Dad. Always.
