Stanley ElvinINGLEDEW(1925-2025). Died at the triumphant age of 100 on December 30. Born in Co. Durham, stationed in Suez during World War Two, frequently seen on the Wirral but lived most of his life in Ormskirk, despite the accent.
Loved fast cars, large boats and small dogs. Arm-wrestler. Chess player. Shirt connoisseur. Rule-breaker. Master of the moustache. Engineer par excellence who built boats, exquisite cars and the occasional house extension in his spare time.
Revolutionised biscuit manufacturing at Jacobs during his professional life. Struck fear into the heart of the incompetent. Enjoyed decent ales and a bottle of red, often during the same meal. Knew at least five jokes, of which three were excellent. Was always right most of the time. A man of facts who liked a laugh.
Caring. Inspiringly independent to the end. Appreciated short sentences and clear phrasing.
Leaves a large family who loved him and will miss him dearly.
