John MichaelHODGKINSONA passionate advocate for education, and devoted canal boater, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Born on the 27th of September 1946, John dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge. As an esteemed educator at Imperial College London, he inspired countless students throughout his life. His enthusiasm for learning was infectious, and he had an exceptional ability to bring out the best in people. Driven by his deep belief in the power of education, he continuously strived to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Outside of academia, John found solace and joy in canal boating. He cherished the tranquil moments spent cruising along the waterways, immersing himself in the beauty of nature. His passion for the canals was infectious, and he often shared his knowledge and love for this unique pastime with others. One couldn't think of John without picturing a man in a bucket hat tinkering with an engine, or at the tiller of a narrow boat. John is survived by his loving wife, Jenny, and his two sons, Stuart and Andrew. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. John Michael Hodgkinson will be held on the 30th of June 2023, at St Swithun's Church, Retford, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Cancer Research UK in Johns name. John will forever be remembered as a remarkable educator, an avid canal boater, and the man with the bucket hat that brightened the lives of those around him.
