CyrilHIRSTAfter fighting his illness so bravely, Cyril Hodgson Hirst passed away on Wednesday, September 7, aged 90 at Springhill House Nursing Home. For most of his working life, he had been employed at Howard & Bullough’s in Accrington. For the latter part of his career, he became a carer/ cook at The Alex Home, Rough Lee, Accrington which at that time was for young adults with disabilities. It was a role that he loved greatly. Cyril had many hobbies and always filled his days and remained active throughout. Caravanning, dancing, bowling, and walking probably being his main interests, whilst making sure he always made time for his family. Cyril belonged to many organisations and groups such as Toc H, Probus, Prospects, to name just a few. He had been a Methodist local preacher and an active member at Antley Methodist Church. Cyril was the dearly loved husband of the late Dorothy, much loved father of Sharon and father-in-law of John, treasured grandad of Ashley and Bethany. Very dear brother-in-law of Frank, Margaret, Evelyn, Keith, Joyce and Stuart, and a dear uncle to his nephews and nieces. Cyril will be sadly missed by all and by his close friend Tanya. A funeral service is to take place at Antley Methodist Church at 11.45am on Friday, September 23 followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium at 1pm. Relatives and friends are asked to please meet at the Church. Family flowers only by request. Donations preferred in memory of Cyril for Antley Methodist Church or Samaritans Purse.
