Professor Harry Heaney, Emeritus Professor of Organic Chemistry at Loughborough University, passed away peacefully on 25 October 2025, aged 94.
Harry was a devoted husband to the late Margaret, a beloved father to Jeremy, Mark, and Simon, and a loving Grandad to his cherished grandchildren. His family was the heart of his life, and he took immense pride in their achievements and happiness.
Born on 3 September 1931, Harry dedicated his professional life to advancing the field of organic chemistry. Renowned for his pioneering research on heterocyclic compounds, he inspired generations of scientists through his teaching, mentorship, and publications. His passion for discovery and education left an enduring mark on the scientific community.
Outside of academia, Harry's interests were as vibrant as his career. He had a lifelong love of chemistry, music, and sport, and he approached each with enthusiasm and joy. Whether in the laboratory, listening to a symphony, or cheering on his favorite team, Harry embraced life fully.
He will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, and humility, as well as his unwavering dedication to family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Loros, a charity close to the family's heart.
There will be a service held to celebrate Harry's life at St Andrews Church, Prestwold on Wednesday 3rd December at 2:15pm
