HarryHATTAMIt is with great sadness that we announce the death of Harry on Friday 3rd April 2026. After a short illness, Harry passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Harry was the beloved husband of Dorothy; a loving dad to Christopher and Caroline; a devoted granddad to Kate, Florrie, Sophie and Harry; and a treasured brother to Norah, Tom and Jim. He was also an amazing father-in-law to Helen and Simon, a much loved uncle, and a wonderful friend to all who knew him.

Harry's funeral and celebration of his life will be held at St Joseph's Church in Birtley (DH3 1LJ) on Tuesday, 28th April 2026 at 10.00am, followed by a committal service at Birtley Crematorium at 11.00am.

All are welcome to join the family after the Requiem Mass at Charlie Perkins RAOB Club (Birtley Buffs) on Birtley Lane, Birtley, DH3 1AP (around the corner from the church) to continue the celebration of Harry's life.

No flowers, please. Should you wish to make a donation in memory of Harry, please click on the link for Gateshead Carers' Association (a monthly peer support group attended by Harry). Alternatively, there will be a collection box at the back of church for Gateshead Hospice at Home (the team who looked after Harry over the last few weeks of his life). Thank you!

Harry was a huge presence in our street for so many years. He always had a smile and time for a chat. He demonstrated what it is to love, cherish and enjoy your wife and family. A wonderful example of a life of faith well lived. We will miss him. With our love, Jim and Ev Cowan

My lovely Harry, the man who showed me what true love between a husband and wife looks like through sickness and health. I loved our chats. Your smile lit up the room and your love of others shone through every word you spoke. Heaven will be rejoicing with all kinds of joyful sounds now that you're there. They are the lucky ones! Xxx
Thank you Jesus for giving me the opportunity to meet my lovely friend Harry. Xxx
