I first met Colin in May 1977 at the lovely home of Liz Foster-Halls. Colin had invited Alan and myself, including our almost two-year old daughter, to stay with them for a few days, whilst also enjoying "A Comedy of Errors" at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. I'm pretty sure we actually met Judy Dench backstage. Liz used to let out the cottages on her land to the various actors. Liz's mother kindly babysat for our daughter on the evening in question.
I remember it was Colin who taught me how to water divine. That particular spring of 1977 was glorious, and we went on many country walks.
I'm so glad that Colin was able to visit us in Salisbury on several occasions, when we would all enjoy a vegetarian meal together, after which I generally left the gentlemen to converse about 'serious' topics.
I also recall that it was Colin who aided us with a small loan to purchase our first home, a first floor maisonette. A mere three years later, and now with two daughters, we moved back to our home town of Salisbury. Thank you Colin, a very kind and generous man.

I have known Colin since he worked for EASAMS back in the 1970s. We had many adventurers together including going to South Africa. We would wander around Frimley looking for a birthday present for his daughter! He visited me in Salisbury and I stayed at his house in Gosport and then St Agnes. We cycled together. His incredible knowledge and understanding was such an inspiration to me. His ability to apply logic, backed up by his experiences, was incredible. I will greatly miss him.

My 'eminence gris' in my short-lived naval career, I was able to keep in touch with Colin on a regular basis. Generous with his knowledge and companionship, we last enjoyed one another's company in HMS EXCELLENT in June 2024 at the glorious First of June Dinner. he would have been the only member present wearing Korean War Campaign medals! A gentleman whom I will miss very much. Nigel Carter
