Clifford EdwinGUARDPassed peacefully at Hillside Care Home in Uplands, Swansea, aged 99 years. Beloved Husband of Margaret, (former husband of Patty), dear father of Colleen, Terry (Dale), Ed (Tracey), Susan (Fred) and also Thom and Rachel (deceased). Loving Grandfather to 12 wonderful grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Born in Swansea, Cliff was proud to have served in the US Army. He was the recipient of numerous medals including the French Legion d'Honneur following his distinguished service with the US Army throughout WWIl. Cliff also supported a number of veterans groups and causes throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Veterans Association, the American Legion and the Royal British Legion where he was well known for selling poppies every year in Swansea market. He made other charitable donations to veterans groups, including his share of the proceeds of his biography "GI Limey, a Welsh American's Second World War" After earning his degree at Purdue University, he went on to have a distinguished career with the United States government before returning to his beloved Swansea where he helped to create and establish the Swansea Center for Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Helping veterans and others overcome their struggles provided him with a tremendous sense of personal satisfaction. Mr. Guard's Funeral Service will be held at 12.00pm on Monday June 12th at Morriston Crematorium, Swansea. This will be followed by a wake at The Welcome Inn, Llangyfelach Rd. Tirdeunaw SA5 7HT. His final resting place will be at "Arlington National Cemetery, USA", where he will be interred with full military honours. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations in his name be made to the Royal British Legion. c/o St James Funeral Home 31 St James Gardens Uplands, Swansea SA1 6DT Tel - 01792 643 840

My deepest sympathies to my besties Colleen and Terry, Patty and Family across the pond, on the loss of your precious Dad. He was such a loved and respected Man. I met Mr. Guard in 1972 when Colleen and I were in college. While initially “scared” of him as an 18 yo !, I grew to love him so much. He was always so loving and supportive and it wasn't until later when I learned what a war hero he was❤️. RIP GI Limey. You leave a beautiful legacy.
