Jonathan was my oldest pal. We knew each other from the very start, as our Mums were both pregnant at the same time, although Jonathan was a few months younger than me. We really palled up at BGS where our shared love of music and the theatre drew us together. We spent many, many hours listening to loud music on his Dad's very nice HiFi on a Saturday and consumed vast quantities of strong black coffee. We would often 'borrow' his Dad's very powerful Triumph and take it for a spin down Boardsides or squeal around town in Jon's mini. Before Jon could legally drive, we would trundle around his Grandad's field in an ancient Austin A30. There were so many holes in the floor, you could see the grass beneath your feet! Happy times.
We didnt see a great deal of each other once we left hom but palled up once more in Ambleside where Jon studied to be a teacher. We had a great time, did a lot of laughing and mucking about. I was honoured to be his best man at his wedding and still fondly remember waking up the following day stark naked in the bath wearing only my socks as the taps ran over my feet!
Jonathan lit up any room and filled it with (often ear piercing) laughter. He was irrepressible and i am so grateful to have called him my friend. Heaven will be a happier place with Jonathan in it. And a lot noisier.
