LeonardGREENMr Leonard Green, aged 73, of Reedsholme, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, April 19. Leonard spent his whole life working in the transport industry. Buses had been his passion since being a small boy. On leaving school, aged just 16, he began work as a clerk at Leicester City Transport. He progressed from this job to Transport Manager at Gelligaer and then Taff Ely in South Wales, followed by Traffic Superintendent at Chesterfield Transport, before moving to Rossendale in 1984 to become Group Managing Director of Rossendale Transport until 1997. Leonard was a member of Longholme Methodist Church and enjoyed being a local preacher for over 40 years. He was a committed Rotarian and helped Rossendale Rotary Club with their many fundraising activities, including supporting the International Aid Trust. He leaves behind beloved wife of 48 years Heather, sons Jonathan and Nick, daughters-in-law Tara and Clare, and his treasured grandsons Matthew, Christopher, Oliver, Samuel, Isaac and William. He was also brother of Margaret and the late Ray and brother-in-law of John as well as uncle of Carol, Linda and the late Paul, and cousin of Jessie, Sandra, Ian and Hilda. He will be sadly missed by all. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 5. The cortège will leave Fred Hamers Chapel of Rest at 12.45pm for a service at Stacksteads Methodist Church beginning at 1.15pm. Family flowers only please.
