With deep respect, I honor the memory of Mariel Rees, a remarkable woman whose life I had the privilege of caring for. During our time together, I witnessed her warmth, grace, and quiet strength. Her resilience, kindness, and humor left a lasting impression on all who knew her. I feel truly blessed to have been part of her journey and to have known her in such a meaningful way.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by the light and love she so generously gave.

Mariel taught me when I was 6 years old in Trebanos Primary School and she was a very kind and supportive teacher. She then taught me in Sunday School in Gosen as did her husband, John Gower, where we became friendly with their children Aled and Betsan. I have very fond memories of them all, including baby sitting Aled and Betsan on one of the rare occasions that Mariel and John went out. John Gower then became my Maths teacher in Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera where he encouraged and supported me. I eventually became a teacher myself having had such positive role models. We owe both Mariel and John many thanks for all they did to support the children of Trebanos over the years. May Mariel rest in peace with John and Aled.
