Matthew DavidGALLAGHER21st March 1973 - 8th March 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew David Gallagher, who died peacefully on 8th March 2026 after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease. Matt was a beloved husband to Lisa and a devoted father to Hollie-Mae, Daisy and Jack, and a much loved figure to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his strength, warmth, and the way he brought people together, even in the most difficult of times. A passionate rugby man, Matt loved both playing and coaching the game. Through rugby he built lifelong friendships and became part of a wide and supportive community who will feel his loss deeply. Following his diagnosis in 2023, Matt founded the Matt Gallagher Foundation to support families across the West Midlands affected by Motor Neurone Disease. Through this, he helped over 100 families, and his determination to support others never wavered. His legacy will live on in the many lives he has touched. Matt will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Reception into Church to be held at Olton Friary Church on Thursday 16th April at 7:00pm. Funeral service to take place on Friday 17th April at 11:30am, followed by a private burial.

Forever loved and never forgotten.

Matt was an excellent Leader. As well as being the Captain of Warwickshire u21’s, Matt led Warwickshire u-21’s when they toured Zimbabwe and were successful in all four Tour matches, including the International against the Zimbabwe u21 National Team. In his after-Dinner Captain’s speech, Matt was gracious to the hosts, and thanked everyone involved for making the Tour a success.
