AnneFRASERllustrator, artist, model, mother, renovator of houses and creator of beautiful gardens b. 26 March 1943 - Seaford, Sussex to Kenneth Whyatt and Frances Whyatt (nee Roberts) d. 23 Jan 2026 - Caterham, Surrey
After starting life in Seaford, Sussex, Anne lived from early childhood to death in the county of Surrey. With brothers Michael (1947 - ) and John (1957 - ) she grew up in Effingham Junction in the 1950s, where she first displayed her gift for art as she learned to paint and draw from live subjects. Suffering a fall down stairs at eleven years old and developing glandular fever in the same year meant she missed some time at school, but she recovered. In 1958 she moved with her brothers and parents to Dorking, putting her within striking distance of Reigate School of Art (1961 - 1967) where she honed her talents, made lifelong friends and stayed on as a part-time teacher. After graduating, Anne also worked as an illustrator for a Central London advertising agency. Her beauty was recognised when she won Miss East Surrey Newspapers and Miss Gatwick Airport in 1968. This being where she met her first husband, Don Fraser (1941 - 2001), photographer and studio owner. She added photographic model to her repertoire and they were married in 1971 and moved to Wallington. Her son, Mark Fraser, was born in 1972 and grew up in Wallington until 1979, when the family moved to Reigate. Anne and Don were divorced in 1981, when Anne met and lived with the love of her life, John Moody (1953 - ) artist, designer and advertising agency owner. Living in a succession of homes with John, Anne brought to bear her artistic talents to renovate them inside, out and in the gardens: Basingstoke (1982-4), Great Bookham (1984-6) and then back to Dorking from 1986. Anne was a professional portrait artist taking on dozens of commissions for people and pets from the surrounding area and continued to build on her range of watercolour and pastel landscapes, floral and other still life works in her spare time. Some of her more popular paintings were made into greetings cards. Anne and John married in 1996, hosting their wedding guests in Anne's lovingly nurtured garden overlooking Ranmore. In 1998 they moved to Tadworth where they remained together until 2008, when Anne's increasing ill health led to an amicable divorce. Anne moved to Epsom where she continued to paint, garden, produce portraits on commission, and grandmother Mark's children Adam and Alessandra Fraser, as her health allowed, until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2022. Anne died peacefully in her room at Coombe Dingle nursing home, Caterham. Anne is survived and much missed by Mark Fraser, Michael Whyatt, John Whyatt and John Moody.
The funeral takes place at Randall's Park Crematorium, Leatherhead, Thursday 26th February at 16:15.
