MarjorieFINN (NEE BANNISTER)It is with great sadness, that we announce the death of Marjorie Finn, who passed away peacefully on August 16 in the Royal Blackburn Hospital surrounded by her family, after a brief illness at the age of 89. Marjorie was the loving wife of the late Gerald Finn, dear mother to Hugh, Karen and Andrew, cherished mother-in-law to John, Jacqui and Rosalind, grandma to Tom, Rhiannon, Catherine, Jessica, Jane, Dominic, Naomi and great-grandma to Phoebe. A good friend to many, Marjorie will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She spent her whole life in the Accrington area, working at Highams, Mullard’s Barnes’ Bakery, Holden’s Hardware Shop and finally as a dinner lady at Rhydding’s High School before retiring. Marjorie loved nothing better than family get-togethers, whether around the dining table or at BBQs in her garden. Marjorie will be particularly remembered for her raisin buns from the oven! Gatherings happened frequently, so long as they didn’t clash with Accrington Stanley playing at home. She was taken to her first ‘Stanley’ match by her big brother Bob in 1937 at the age of four and became a lifelong supporter, attending matches well into her 80s, until chronic arthritis prevented it. Marjorie gained much pleasure from her family, particularly latterly, when they arrived bearing chocolate ‘treats’. Together with Gerald, Marjorie enjoyed extended caravan holidays, often with close friends and family exploring France and later Spain. Her kind and caring nature left a lasting memory on all who knew her and she will be sadly missed. The funeral will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 29 at St Mary’s Church, Oswaldtwistle, where Marjorie was a regular member of the congregation for decades. This will be followed by a short ceremony at Accrington Crematorium at 12.20pm. Family flowers only please with any donations gratefully received to Marjorie’s chosen charity Cancer Research UK c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington, BB5 3JD.
