JamesDITCHFIELDJames Ditchfield, of Helmshore Road, Haslingden, passed away on January 16 aged 78 years. After leaving school, James worked in Lambert Howarth Footwear Factory. He then branched out, becoming self-employed, selling footwear first in Scunthorpe then expanding to Lincoln, where he lived until he retired. He moved back to Rossendale to be closer to his family. Jim was a lifelong Burnley supporter, he was passionate about cricket having played in the Lancashire League at Rawtenstall CC and in the Workshop League and successfully started a pub team in Lincoln. He played chess with his best pal Frank and was a member of the Rossendale Chess Club. James loved swimming and scuba diving, he tried his hand at golf and was reasonably successful in playing bridge. His greatest pleasure in retirement was his music, playing his guitar and singing. He enjoyed holidays many abroad following the England Cricket team and at home he loved caravanning so he could spend time with his little sister. James leaves behind his wife Sylvia, sisters Kathleen and Lorraine, brother-in-law Maurice, nephews Andrew and Steven, Lee, Gary and Carl and their Families. His funeral will be held on Friday, February 10 at Accrington Crematorium at 11am. Donations to Rossendale Hospice. Funeral Director: Johnson Durning and Woods, Haslingden.
