Irene HartleyDEASEYIRENE, aged 94 years of Clayton-le-Moors, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, November 8. She was the beloved wife of the late Martin, devoted and cherished mum to David and Ian, and a dearly loved mother in law to Linda. A wonderful and amazing Nana to Victoria and Andrew, loving Nana in law to Damion and Lauran, and proud Great Grandma Irene to little Oliver. Irene will also be fondly remembered by Elaine, Ian's partner, and was a close and treasured friend to Renee and Jean. Irene was a true people person who brought warmth and laughter wherever she went. She worked for almost two decades at Barnes Square Chippy alongside Hannah, where she was affectionately known by many as Renee. Irene loved to dance and was often seen enjoying nights out at the Poplar Working Men's Club in Accrington, dancing the night away with friends. In later years, she found joy in watching Strictly Come Dancing, which rekindled her lifelong love of dance. She also enjoyed relaxing with romantic novels and magazines, always keeping her kind heart and spirited nature. Many happy memories were made every Saturday when Irene would take her granddaughter Victoria to Blackpool building sandcastles on the beach, walking along the promenade, and often ending the day watching Joe Longthorne perform on the pier. These special times captured Irene's love of family, fun, and making every moment count. In her later years, particularly throughout her 70s and 80s, Irene generously gave her time as a volunteer at her local Oxfam charity shop for over 10 years, where she was a valued part of the community. Irene continued to embrace life to the fullest and often she would hop on the free bus from Barnes Square in Clayton for a day out in Morecambe, spending many happy hours on the jetty near the Midland Hotel, simply enjoying the peaceful sea view. Irene also shared many treasured times with her lifelong friend Jean Fairclough at the Robin Hood Caravan Park in Rhyl, with Ian, Jeannie and Paul, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, companionship and sunshine. Irene will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her kindness, joy, and love for life will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Flowers are welcome. Donations are being gratefully received in her memory on behalf of British Heart Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support. A donation box will be provided on the funeral. Irene's funeral will be held at 11.40am on Friday, November 28 2025 at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road, Accrington, BB5 6HA.
