HOT CROSS BUNS

No longer one a penny – two a penny
And hardly any spice -
The cross that’s placed upon them -
Doesn’t taste half as nice -
Today – nay yesteryear.
Feed them to your daughters
But that would not be right
Obesity and plumpness is
Every child’s plight.
Feed them to your strapping sons
And see them from the start.
Begin the downward journey
To a nasty working heart.
So, take care when taking a bite
Do not indulge too far
Enjoy the hot cross bun –
Just one -
Then walk -
Omit the car.

Sixty years ago today
You took my hand and led the way
To a land of children four
You always said you wanted more!

In a life of turns and twists
You couldn't live without your lists.
Poems, sayings, stories too
All the magic that made you you.

As I know already said,
Looking back the day we wed
So many happy years have flown
And now I am but all alone
But when it comes to writing verse
Yours are good and mine are worse.

Sometimes the solution is easy to find – wait - it will come to you without your help.

NESTING TIME

And spy the birds as they dig and delve -
Turning over each twig where thus they hide -
To make a cosy nest from love -
With sweet love birds side alone by side.
And put the nesting box up high –
Just for blue birds and so that they can fly -
In and out in the summer sun
With just a twinkling of an eye -
And make sure, almost constantly -
A tree nearby for them to see -
And pick at will the insects free.
For fledglings eat so ravenously -
And never seem to fill their tum
Until the dying of the sun!
And then again, as dawn must break -
Above the reeds in distant lake -
Some warblers keeping out of sight -
See tiny insects lost in light -
And then a flash – the insects’ plight!
