I hope Gordon’s family still look out for tributes for him. I’m a couple of years overdue but he’s still someone I recall from my schooldays. And I presume he was the great teacher with whom I learnt Russian at what was then Newport Grammar!? It was because of his skill at teaching that I went to Nottingham University to study Russian, after getting a B at A leveI. I also remember him as quite a strict but fair disciplinarian!
After some years I went to visit him at home in a village near SW, and we went for a drink together in a nearby pub. A gifted teacher who became a friend. I’m sure you still miss him terribly and I wish I’d been to see him again before he died.
My deepest sympathy and very best wishes.
